Take Action / Climate Change – Actions You Can Take

We heart wildlife!  We all want to help our favorite animals, but how?

Many species are impacted by climate change so one way to help species in peril is by  taking steps now to limit our ecological footprint. As Sisu, Disney’s last dragon in “Raya and the Last Dragon” reminds us, “It may feel impossible, but sometimes, you just have to take the first step.”

  • As Lily Tomlin once quipped, “I said Somebody should do something about that.  Then I realized, I am somebody.”  Let’s all be somebody for the species we heart!

What We Can Do To Help

Climate change is attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Did you know that residential buildings account for 20% of U.S. carbon emissions? If we take even small steps to reduce our ecological footprint, the impact can add up and make a difference for the animals we love. We’re likely aware of some of the more intuitive ways to reduce our home energy consumption such as:

  • Using LED bulbs and turning off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Recycling what you can and limiting waste.
  • Installing solar panels if you can afford them.

Other helpful steps are less obvious.  Our staff recommends the following actions listed in the order of effort required.   We’ve tried each and provided tips that worked for us:

Wash your laundry in cold water

Delete your old emails

Unplug appliances when not in use

Take 5-minute showers

Adjust your thermostat

Eat less red meat and dairy
